Glasgow rapist given Order for Lifelong Restriction

A rapist has been jailed indefinitely for attacks on a pregnant woman and a stranger he met on the street.

David Hamilton, 31, from Glasgow, was given an Order for Lifelong Restriction when he appeared for sentence today (14 Oct).

He had previously been found guilty of carrying out serious sexual assaults on two women between 2019 and February last year.

He molested and abused one victim on numerous occasions, raping her while she was pregnant.

The jury heard how he also attacked a vulnerable teenager he bumped into by chance.

He followed and harassed the 18-year-old before grabbing her and carrying her into Festival Park in Glasgow’s Govan where she was raped and sexually assaulted.

At the High Court in Glasgow today, he was jailed and made subject of an Order for Lifelong Restriction, with a minimum punishment period of three years six months.

His name was added to the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.

Welcoming today’s sentence, Scotland’s Procurator Fiscal for High Court Sexual Offences, Fraser Gibson, said:

“This verdict clearly shows that David Hamilton is a danger to women.  He attacked a woman who was known to him and a stranger unfortunate enough to cross his path.

“The fortitude of his victims in testifying has brought his contemptible behaviour to an end and made life safer for others.  I hope the courageous women he assaulted find some small comfort in that.

“I would urge anyone who has been a victim of similar offending, or witnessed such criminal activity, to come forward, report it and seek help.”
